Banff Food Guide: 7 Places to Eat in Banff, Canada (With Video)

Posted on

Like most people, I traveled to Banff, Canada to experience breathtaking views of mountains, lakes, and all the scenic stuff in between. What I didn’t realize when I booked my tickets, is that I’d also be experiencing a mountain load of good food. I put together a list of my favorite restaurants to show you some of the best places to eat in Banff.

BEST BREAKFAST RESTAURANTS IN BANFF, CANADA

Breakfast in Banff, Canada

Since we were pretty active throughout the afternoons during our trip, we usually just ate a huge breakfast that held us over all day until it was time to eat dinner. We loved every single breakfast and brunch spot we tried and the portions were always big and super filling. Here are some of my faves (and these are great for lunch as well).

1. EL TORO

What I loved:

  • Homemade and affordable food influenced by Spanish and Latin American flavors
  • Mimosas at 10am 😉
  • Super random…but their peanut butter was delicious!
  • Large portions
  • Waitress was so friendly!

El Toro (403) 762-2520 • 429 Banff Ave. • Breakfast Menu

2. MELISSA’S MISSTEAK

What I loved:

  • Breakfast served until evening
  • Large portions
  • Items on menu are fresh and made from scratch

Melissa’s MisSteak • (403) 762-5511 • 218 Lynx St. • Breakfast Menu

3. TOOLOULOU’S

What I loved:

  • Cajun/Creole inspired dishes with a dash of Canadian Rocky Mountain infusion
  • Large portions
  • Breakfast until 2pm

BEST BRUNCH SPOT IN BANFF, CANADA

Brunch in Banff, Canada

On our last day, we got a really late start – mainly because the previous days were so action-packed. Instead of breakfast, we opted for brunch since it was 11am by the time we checked out of our hotel. The restaurant we chose ended up being our favorite place for breakfast food the entire trip.

4. MAPLE LEAF GRILL AND LOUNGE

What I loved:

  • They designed the restaurant to give it a very “Canadian” ambiance
  • Good Canadian cuisine
  • Extensive Canadian wine selections
  • Portion sizes were “just right”

Maple Leaf Grill and Lounge • (403) 760-7680 • 137 Banff Avenue • Brunch Menu

DINNER WITH A VIEW

Indian Summer for dinner in Banff, Canada

I wish I could give you more recommendations for dinner, but I wasn’t that impressed with most of the places we dined for dinner (user error). I should have done more research for that one. Our very first night there, the bar was set so high, because we dined at an amazing restaurant at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Every dinner spot after that was just ok!

5. INDIAN SUMMER

What I loved:

  • Incredible view of the Canadian Rockies.
  • Indian food in Banff? Didn’t see that coming.
  • Our waiter was the sweetest! He was awesome.
  • Fun presentation of Indian spices.
  • The hotel itself was interesting to just walk around before we sat down to eat.
  • Food was incredibly flavorful – and the dessert had us begging for seconds.

DESSERT IN BANFF, CANADA

Dessert in Banff, Canada

In addition to the amazing dessert we had at Indian Summer, there are two other places where we went specifically to get some sweet treats. For ice cream (and sorbet for me), we went to Cow’s in the little town of Banff, because it was highly recommended by a local we met. For tea and snacks, we ventured to Lake Agnes Tea House where we enjoyed our treats while surrounded by breathtaking Canadian scenery.

6. COW’S

What I loved:

  • Nice variety of ice cream flavors
  • Water-based sorbet options for vegans
  • Fun store with lots of cute cow-themed items like t-shirts – which are mostly parodies of movies, games, and websites

Cow’s Banff • (403) 760-3493 •134 Banff Ave

7. LAKE AGNES TEA HOUSE

What I loved:

  • Only a 4.5 mile hike from Lake Louise
  • Mountain and lake views from the tea house are incredible
  • Located right next to beautiful Lake Agnes
  • Entertaining chipmunks running around outside
  • 100 different types of loose leaf tea from all around the world
  • Fresh supplies for baking and sandwiches arrive from Calgary every day

Lake Agnes Tea House • (403) 763-7242 • Take the Lake Agnes Trail that starts at Chateau Lake Louise • Main Menu • Tea List
