REVIEW: EC30 Eco-Friendly Home Cleaning and Body Care Products

The cleaning industry generates a lot of long-lasting waste. These days household products come wrapped in plastic, toxins, and extra ingredients we don’t even need.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could buy cleaning and body care products wrapped in eco-friendly packaging that won’t outlive your children?

That’s the promise EC30 is looking to fulfill.

WHAT MAKES EC30 SO GREEN?

Eco-Friendly Checklist: EC30

What I like about EC30 is they go beyond the “anti-plastic” movement. Sustainability and climate action go so much deeper than that. Every sustainable step makes a difference, no matter how big or small—but I gotta shout out EC30 for taking some pretty big ones.

With sustainability being such a buzzword these days, I’m sure you’ve noticed how some brands are greenwashing their products (using green marketing terms to mislead people into believing a brand is eco-friendly, when it isn’t). EC30 ain’t about that life. They actually went back to the drawing board to define what is even necessary for great cleaning and eliminated what wasn’t just so they could waste less.

Did you know most liquid cleaning products consist mostly of just water? Like. Why though. I feel so deceived y’all. EC30 realized water wasn’t necessary, because we have water at home! So, they removed water from their products.

No water means:

• No plastic bottles

• Lighter, more compact products to transport (for us and the environment!)

• Fewer Ingredients

• No preservatives that are required to keep liquid products fresh

• No stabilizers, emulsifiers and fillers that are needed to keep liquid products as a stable liquid

Why is the fewer ingredient thing such a big deal? Well, less ingredients means less C02 emissions. How? Creating and transporting raw ingredients for liquid cleaners is one of the most significant contributors to C02 emissions! What the what?

I mean y’all, they go all out. For real for real. This isn’t your average eco brand in the slightest. EC30 tracks its progress against four key vectors:

1.              Global Warming: Fewer chemicals and less weight mean less CO2 emissions.

2.              Fossil Depletion: Zero plastic packaging significantly reduces the usage of fossil fuel resources.

3.              Agricultural Land Use: Material and ingredient choices.

4.              Air Pollution: Renewable energy for manufacturing means reduced particulate matter formation.

MY EC30 EXPERIENCE

I dipped my toes into the EC30 promise of green cleaning, by ordering the “Try-It-All Kit” which comes with the following eco-friendly waterless home care and personal care products: laundry detergent, toilet cleaner, surface cleaner, hand wash, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and face wash.

The first thing I noticed was the eco-friendly packaging. The trial kit comes in fully recyclable and compostable cardboard. The products were thoughtfully shipped in a 100% bamboo compostable bag. I’m excited to test it out in my compost bin! More than likely I’ll shred it first, to make it easier to break down.

Then I examined the products. They were so basic– no water, no bottles, no extra fluff. Just these little lightweight swatches that promised to dissolve in water. Being basic gets a bad rap, but in this case, I’m #TeamBasic. And the scents. Oh the scents! As soon as I opened the box, a heavenly fragrance wafted towards my nostrils. I have to say that was a pleasant bonus I wasn’t expecting. I don’t know why I was so surprised though—no crazy chemicals means no gross chemical smell. I was thoroughly pleased.

One by one, I gave some of the products a try to see how effective they were. My favorite so far is the toilet bowl cleaner. It’s kinda mesmerizing to watch it work its magic. You just toss the swatch into the toilet bowl and it starts foaming immediately. Technically you don’t have to do anything after that. You should just be able to let it clean the bowl and flush without ever having to reach for a toilet brush. But for whatever reason, I found it oddly satisfying to use my brush to swirl the foam around and clean it. I’m easily entertained.

The next thing I tried was the hand soap swatch. When you’re ready to wash your hands, you put a swatch in the palm of your hand, add some water, and it’ll immediately dissolve. Then you can rub, rub, rub, and watch it foam into a hand soap that you can proceed to wash your hands with. Thassit. Easy peasy.

The rest of the products work the same way. Add water, watch it dissolve.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

The only ones you have to be careful with are the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Since water will dissolve these, you don’t want to just openly leave all your swatches in your shower. If they get wet, there goes all your product. Whelp! Instead store the swatches in a container somewhere in your bathroom.

Mmmkay! Thassit. That’s the review. Your turn. Check it out and lemme know what you think!

  1. How well did the toilet cleaner actually clean? I am wondering if it well work on toilet bowl stains.
